We all have opinions about the people on Big Brother-style TV shows. But spare a thought for nine girls who were duped into taking part in a fake show 鈥?then held captive while naked images of them were sold online. Turkish military police stormed an Istanbul villa to rescue the women this week. They had been held captive for two months after being tricked into thinking that they were to appear on a major Turkish television station. Instead of making it on to a national Big Brother-style show, though, their captors recorded footage of the girls while they were naked and sold the images across the web. Reports suggests that the women weren ;t directly abused or har stanley isolierkanne assed sexually. They were, however, told to fight each other, to wear bikinis and to dance by the villa pool. Then the guys behind the sham were brazen enough to interview the botella stanley applicants in order to choose their final nine. Every one of the modern US Navy 129 ships, and its entire fleet of aircraft, relies on gas turbines for either basic propulsion or to generate electricity for their critical systems鈥攖ypically both. But as fuel costs continue to rise, these turbines now burn through nearly $2 billion of fuel annually. Gas turbines, the same sort that power commercial aircraft, boast stanley tumblers significant advantages over the diesel-fed internal combustion engines that they replaced; they ;re more readily scaled to higher power outputs, smaller, lighter, and easier to service. During the last several weeks, NASA has been tracking an unprecedented sea-ice fracturing event off the coast of northern Alaska. As this stanley tumblers dramatic satellite video shows, hundreds of square miles of ice twisted and crumbled into the Beaufort Sea. The whole thing started back in late-January when stanley canada a high-pressure system parked itself above the region, creating warm temperatures and steady southwesterly winds. This fueled the Beaufort Gyre, what NASA says is a wind-driven ocean current that flows clockwise. The gyre pulled the mass stanley cup ive ice sheets past Point Barrow, the northern area of Alaska that extends into the Beaufort Sea. NASA explains: Visualizations of the Arctic often give the impression that the ice cap is a continuous sheet of stationary, floating ice. In fact, it is a collection of smaller pieces that constantly shift, crack, and grind against one another as they are jostled by winds and ocean currents. Especially during the summer鈥攂ut even during the height of winter鈥攃racks鈥攐r leads鈥攐pen up between pieces of ice. New research suggests that exposure to certain microbes during infancy鈥攑articularly, to those from a particular strain of bacteria found in dogs鈥攃an alter the intestinal flora of a baby developing GI tract such that asthmatic symptoms of a commo cups stanley n virus, respiratory syncytial virus RSV , are undetectable. In the study, mice were fed dust from homes with dogs and then exposed to RSV. These mice showed no symptoms of infection. The intestinal bacteria of these same mice were also found to be different than the bacteria living in GI tract non-dust fed mice exposed to RSV. The researchers think that exposure to certain microbes in early infancy changes the early composition of an infant intestinal flora and this sets the tone for how the developing immune system will respond later in childhood, explains stanley termosar Neil Wagner, writing for the Atlantic. Early exposure to and colonization by beneficial bacteria may lead to a generally calmer immune response to the many potential allergens commonl botella stanley y present in the environment. Future studies will attempt to identify the specific species of dog bacteria who offer this health advantage, as well as whether the bacteria are from the dogs themselves or from something else common in a dog-owning household. The research was presented at the 2012 112th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology ASM on June 19 in San Francisco. It has not yet appeared in a peer-reviewed journal. [TheAtlan

A set of 75 million year-old fossils found in the badlands of southern Alberta is adding credence to the suggestion that dinosaurs used feathers to attract a mate, and not to take flight. The fossils, which are from the oldest feathe cups stanley red dinosaurs ever found, are also offering further proof that all ornithomimids 鈥?an ostrich like creature 鈥?were covered in feathers. The image to your right is an artistic recon stanley tumbler struction of feathered ornithomimid dinosaurs by Julius Csotonyi. According to researcher Darla Zelenitsky from the University of Calgary, the Upper Cretaceous Ornithomimus underwent a unique pattern of change in its feathery plumage over the course of its life. Prior to becoming an adul stanley cup price t, the dinosaur would have been covered in down-like feathers. But as it got older, it developed larger feathers on the forearms which formed wing-like structures. This pattern, says Zelenitsky, is different from what we see in birds who develop feathered wings when they ;re still quite young. The discovery also indicates that these dinosaurs did not use these filamentous feathers for any kind of flight or gliding. Because the wing-like forelimbs developed only in more mature individuals, paleontologists theorize that they were used later in life for such things as attracting a mate or egg brooding. Moreover, because ornithomimids were over 150 kilograms 330 lbs , there would have been simply too big to fly. And interestingly, these specimens, which were found back in 2008 and 2
