Welcome! Finding a venue you love is exciting, but it helps to look beyond the photographs. Use this discussion to compare experiences and work out which questions to take to your next venue visit.

    A practical venue enquiry checklist

    • Guest numbers: ask about seated capacity with your preferred table layout, dance floor and any entertainment.
    • What the quote includes: check furniture, linen, catering, drinks, staffing, setup, pack-down and any separate hire charges.
    • Weather plans: see the indoor or sheltered alternative for an outdoor ceremony and ask when the decision to move is made.
    • Access: check step-free routes, toilets, parking, coach access and the distance between the ceremony and reception spaces.
    • Timing: ask when suppliers can arrive, when music must finish and when guests need to leave.
    • Booking conditions: request the deposit schedule, cancellation and postponement terms, and any minimum spend in writing.

Compare suppliers on the same brief

Give each photographer, celebrant, florist or other supplier the same date, location and outline of what you need. Ask who will deliver the service, what is included and how changes are handled. Keep a copy of the agreed details.

Which city or region are you considering, and are you looking for a garden, beach, country or city wedding? What is the one feature your venue must have?

Already booked? Share a question you are glad you asked. Please describe your own experience fairly and disclose any business connection when recommending a supplier.
